The Acadian Peninsula

The Acadian Peninsula is situated at the north east of the province of New Brunswick and is surrounded by the Chaleur Bay on one side and the Gulf of Saint Lawrence on the other. The area has relatively few town, but is filled with villages and regions awaiting your visit!

Step out of the ordinary and come see the villages of the four main regions of the Acadian Peninsula:

Villages and Regions

Caraquet Region

This region surrounds the town of Caraquet. Here, the coastal villages of Grande-Anse, Maisonette and Bas-Caraquet all boast beautiful beaches as well as great activities and many festivals. The village of Grande-Anse also has the Musée des Papes (Popes’ Museum) which exposes the history of catholicism. A few minutes away, the village of Saint-Léolin offers a community summer festival and a winter carnival. The village of Paquetville is inland and closer to the forests, which makes it a great place to try out maple products. For golf lovers, the Pokemouche Golf Club offers a 18-hole course in a magnificent scenery.

Road to the Acadian Isles Region

The road to the Acadian Isles will take you to warm little communities cradled by the sea. Besides Shippagan and Lamèque, the main town of the region, you will discover the villages of Le Goulet and Sainte-Marie-Saint-Raphaël as well as the island of Miscou. With all their beaches, marshes and peat mosses, they are wonderful places to observe nature and to do water activities. Kitesurfing for example is a growing activity in the region, with the Wind & Surf Club recently acquiring the «Piscine», a site considered to be the best place to kitesurf in eastern Canada. Also, don’t miss the Miscou lighthouse, towering above a splendid scenery.

Tracadie-Sheila Region

The town of Tracadie-Sheila is the urban centre of this region of land and sea. On one side, the seaside communities such as Val-Comeau and Rivière-du-Portage and, on the other, inland communities such as Sainte-Rose, Pont-Landry and the village of Saint-Isidore. Saint-Isidore organises a Western Festival and a regional agricultural fair every year, as well as a 10 km run. The village also has a superb historical church and a museum tracing back the history of the forest and agricultural industries in the region. Everywhere you will get to meet welcoming people, happy to share with you the history of their community.

Neguac Region

The region of Neguac is situated around the coastal village of Neguac. A southern entranceway to the Acadian Peninsula, Neguac boasts an all-Acadian joie de vivre. The village hosts two festivals, one of which being New Brunswick’s Giant Pumpkin Festival. Close to the village, you can explore the beaches of the Île aux Foins Provincial Park and play a great game of golf at the Tabusintac Golf Club.
